End of Life Doula Services
What is an End-of-Life Doula?
The International End of Life Doula Association defines an End-of-life Doula as:
Someone who provides companionship, comfort, and guidance to those planning for death, diagnosed with a terminal illness, or facing imminent death. Doulas offer nonmedical holistic support encompassing emotional, spiritual, and practical care. Doulas offer resources to help the dying person and their circle of care to make informed decisions in a supportive environment.
We offer support when people are impacted by a life changing illness, after a terminal diagnosis, when death is imminent, or even after a death—to help with light grief support.
Doulas normalize deathcare by creating spaces to hold conversations leading to increased communication and increased spiritual and emotional well-being. When individuals plan for death, they have autonomy over their decisions and are able to clearly define their end-of-life wishes with family and loved ones. While there are alternative names for end-of-life doulas like death doula, death midwife, death coach, end-of-life coach—we all seek to provide compassionate deathcare.
Offerings
At Full cup we offer End of Life (EOL) Doula services that are not to be misconstrued with traditional outpatient therapy. Our EOL Doula services are very specific, and are NOT outpatient therapy. As a result, unfortunately, these services ARE NOT covered by insurance companies. Packages and prices are listed below for your convenience, however please do not hesitate to reach out with any questions.
Family Consultation/Support
EOL Doula will provide grief support to a family member or loved one. If there is a specific need that they would like help with i.e.: calling hospice providers, reaching out to loved ones to help organize meal planning etc. This is also something the EOL Doula can assist with. This is NOT outpatient therapy once again, but a supportive, listening ear and someone to assist with any “life admin” related to the end-of-life stress of their loved one.
This Package includes the following:
1-hour meetings with family member/caregiver—meetings can be to provide support, to assist with errands or tasks or a combination of the two.
Total Cost: $65/hour
5 Hour Bundle: $300
*Please note that EOL Doula will travel to you, and will run errands for you. Should any of the errands, travel to the person or combination of errands at the end of one week exceed 40 miles, a fee of $50 for travel costs will be applied.
Life Review Package
A life review is a process of reflecting on and evaluating one’s life experiences, often with the goal of finding meaning, integrating past experiences, and gaining a sense of closure or purpose. This is typically done with another person, and documented in some fashion.
This package includes the following:
3 Story telling hours with client—time is spent collecting information, listening to them share their life story, and deciding how they would like to have it preserved or documented and if they’d like it shared with anyone.
***This can be broken up into parts based on client need, does not have to be completed in one setting.
***These sessions are usually completed where ever the client requests and is most comfortable. If there is a significant distance (greater than 40 miles round trip from our office) there will be a $50 transportation fee added (for the 3 hours).
2 Hour Document creating— Creating the final version of the document with any edits/editions that were discussed with the client per their wishes.
1-2 Hour Document Review & Farewell—time spent with the client reviewing their finished product, answering any questions and getting their thoughts on the experience.
Includes access via text/email to Doula to discuss the project in between meetings. No extra cost.
Total cost: $400
*This cost does not include any travel costs as mentioned above
(please note that any special requests for the documentation part that require additional resources/materials will be the financial responsibility of the client, this cost is for written material or voice recording only)
Legacy Project
A legacy project is a purposeful creation designed to share values, stories, and experiences with loved ones, encompassing one’s past, present, and future, and aiming to leave a lasting impact. They come in many forms some examples are:
-compiling favorite recipes and creating a cookbook of family recipes that will be shared with loved ones.
-tangible creations: a garden, a work station, redecorating a room etc.
-Letter/book writing
-Raising money for a cause (not in the form of a party/celebration see below)
*Whatever you can dream up, we will try to make it happen.
This Package Includes the following:
2 Hour Intro/brainstorm with client. –Will also discuss who this will be gifted to (or any other requests). Estimate of time to complete will be given at the end of this/these sessions.
Up to 5 Hours of Legacy Project Creation (an estimate of hours will be given at the end of the planning session, if it is greater than 5, costs will be adjusted)
2 Hours farewell/wrap up/processing—will review the final product, make any necessary last-minute adjustments and Process together what it was like to complete.
Includes access to EOL Doula via text/email in between meetings to discuss the project no additional cost.
Total Cost: $550 (+ cost of materials, and any travel over 40 miles round trip)
* All costs for materials for the legacy project will be financed by the client or by taking donations when possible and appropriate.
Celebrations of Life Before Death
Celebrations of life before death are picking up in popularity over the past few years. It is a time to celebrate your life together with family and friends and to join with them in how they are going to remember you. These gatherings can sometimes be in the form of a “living funeral” however they can also be dinner parties with loved ones, setting up a week away/vacation with loved ones etc. We want to help you create special memories with your favorite people in the way that you would like to do that, and we hope to take the burden of the tasks off of you and your loved ones, so that you all can just enjoy.
This Package Includes the Following:
1-2 Hour introduction and gathering of information
-up to 5 Hours of planning-we will determine what your dream celebration looks like and how we can achieve it! We will set a budget for costs, discuss vendor options.
*Should planning exceed 5 hours, EOL Doula will make client/Payer aware ASAP and the rate will be a reduced rate of $40/additional hour.
– up to 4 Hours Day of assistance (if wanted by client)
–Access to EOL Doula via text/email to discuss the celebration in between meetings. No extra cost
Total Cost: $650 (+ cost of Vendors/material etc. and an extra $50 if travel exceeds 40 miles round trip)
